When I saw the Cliniko job posting, I thought it was gift from the heavens. Exactly what I've been looking for in my next position.
Autonomy! Remote working! Great benefits! Nice people!
Maybe this is too good to be true. Maybe this is...a trap?
But life is too short to not take chances on good things though, right? YOLO and all that.
(Note to self: Find out what the new way of saying YOLO is...)
Now comes the hard part.
How do I convince you that I am a cool-talented-exactly what you've been dreaming of-designer?
I guess I could list off all my experience? Hope that my portfolio is somehow the best you've ever seen in your whole dang life?
That always works...right?
Maybe instead I'll give you three important things to know about working with me. That sounds like something that I definitely won't regret. Definitely.
1.) I ask a lot of questions.
I like knowing how everything works together. I think design shouldn't live in an aesthetic vacuum.
Sometimes people want the work to just get done exactly how they want it without answering a single question. I think that's silly.
I'm excited for this particular role because there are no managers or meetings, I imagine everyone is pretty good at communicating.
2.) I can't stand broken processes.
While asking all my questions, I may ask "why." Because if the answer is, "well, that's just how we've always done it!" Then I have a bunch more questions.
I like the saying "leave it better than you found it." I've set up project management systems, customer surveys, merchandise stock procedures...just because it was what the team needed.
Obviously my core work tasks come first. But why waste time and energy on things that aren't working? Hopefully I can help out with things that need doing at Cliniko too.
3.) I really care about good design.
I love design. I like brand guidelines. I enjoy visual problem solving. And I want to keep getting better at design.
When getting feedback on work, I ask a lot of follow up questions (surprise). For me to improve, I need more information than "I don't like that photo." I like conversations about the work. Tell me how you think think she looks smug in the photo. I can work with that.
I've seen that at Cliniko, the whole team has an opportunity to give feedback. This sounds very exciting! Getting fresh perspectives sounds like a great way for me to improve my skills.
Hopefully I have dazzled you somehow.
If not, I also promise that if you hire me, I'll make cute doodle portraits of everyone.*
*Unless this counts as a bribe and takes me out of the running. Then obviously this is a joke. I would never...
Thank you for your time. Feel free to poke around the rest of my portfolio website to see some examples of my work.
Please contact me if you have any comments, concerns, or cute dog photos.
